History
Modeled after the National Student Leadership Forum in Washington D.C., the BC Student Forum (BCSF) began as an idea from two students. The students, along with a working committee of advisers established BCSF in 2002. In 2005, Joycelin Ng, who was then previously involved with the BC Student Forum as a student, emerged as the Director of BC Student Forum and Associate of City in Focus. Her passion to see young leaders understand faith, the marketplace and their career sparked great enthusiasm among students. Over time, the associate ministry of the BC Student Forum returned under the administration of City in Focus as BCSF Director, Joycelin Ng, began the pursuit of the Vancouver Arts Network working with artists and faith. The BC Student Forum started with 2 students who reached out to 32 peers, but it has now gathered over 1,000 students and over 300 leading Christian professionals.
In 2006, the BC Student Forum accepted the invitation to bring a group of students to the National Prayer Breakfast in Ottawa, creating the first National Student Forum (now called Canada Student Forums). This marked the first student group presence at the National Prayer Breakfast on Parliament Hill in its 42 years of existence. Already, connections with other provinces are forming coming together under the umbrella of Canada Student Forums.
