Judy Graves, Coordinator of Tenant Assistance at City Hall, has worked with Vancouver’s street population since 1979. Since 1994 she has focused on Canada’s increasing homeless population. Judy learns from the homeless by going into the streets and listening to them, both during the day and into the night. She designed the Outreach Project, now used across British Columbia and Alberta, making it possible for a person who is sleeping on the sidewalk at 6:00am to have an income and a permanent room of their own by 4:00pm the same afternoon.
For her years of commitment and service, Judy Graves has earned an honorary doctorate and continues to serve in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
